April 1st fundraiser combines gourmet dining and glamorous drag performances
New Orleans, LA — Once a year, The Country Club serving staff reach for sequins and wigs, instead of uniforms, switching their hospitality service skills to “serving” as performers. This year, the club’s Turn-A-Bout Fundraiser Dinner, taking place at 7 p.m., on Wednesday, April 1, will benefit New Orleans-based nonprofit, Project Lazarus.
Club staff, aided by local, well-known drag performers, will perform as drag kings and queens during the event to fundraise on behalf of Project Lazarus. One hundred percent of the tips will be donated, as well as 20 percent of dinner sales. Dinner seating begins at 7 p.m., and the performances begin at 7:30 p.m. A raffle and other surprises will be featured during the event.
“We’re honored to partner with The Country Club for this event. Turn-A-Bout provides our nonprofit with more ways to reach and educate the community about our work supporting marginalized individuals with HIV. Beyond our mission, it’s an exciting event that everyone can enjoy,” said Project Lazarus Executive Director, Ian Bicko.
Chef Chris Barbato and his culinary team offer a legendary lineup of menu items for event attendees. The diverse dinner menu will feature a variety of small plates, some of which include decadent crab beignets, which are prepared as beignets filled with blue crab meat and sofrito mascarpone and flavored with saffron aioli. There’s also a crispy, vegan cauliflower dish, composed of fried panko-crusted florets tossed in a sticky sesame sauce, topped with toasted sesame seeds, green onion, and toasted cashews.
Some large plate options feature duck ragu, a dish that centers on low-braised duck meat, house-made gnocchi, duck jus, French mirepoix, and gremolata; as well as the shrimp linguine puttanesca, which includes Louisiana white shrimp, tomatoes, olives, caper berries, and red sauce. Additional menu options are available for all palates: click the link for more menu information.
Drink menu items range from an award-winning wine program, to cocktails, mocktails, and other beverage favorites. Guests will enjoy ending their dining experience with the dessert menu, which includes naturally bruleed cheesecake with a smooth custard texture, served with dried fruit compote & pine nuts. The restaurant’s strawberry pavlova plate is both a feast of eyes and mouth, topped with baked meringue and crafted with vanilla pastry, cream, and fresh strawberries.
“We’re thrilled to host such a fun and meaningful evening in support of Project Lazarus. It truly means a great deal to us to create a space where our community can come together, celebrate, and support such a wonderful cause,” Bert McComas, The Country Club general manager, said.
